Eucalyptus deglupta - Rainbow Gum

This is one of four species of Eucalyptus that are not endemic to Australia.  It is a tall tropical tree that reaches 60m tall and is a unique and stunning specimen which gets its common name from the vivid colours of the young bark on the trunk of the tree, this reveals itself when patches of the outer bark are shed at different times of the year showing tones of green, blue, purple, orange and maroon and this actually intensifies with rain.  Note that this species is not cold hardy or tolerant of frost and so is only suitable to tropics or subtropics, prefers areas that do not get below 15˚C.
