Adenium obesum - Desert Rose

The Desert Rose is a beautiful shrublike succulent which produces a large swollen trunk (rootbase or caudex), dark green leathery leaves and is native to arid deserts of Africa and the Middle East.  It can reach 2m high in its native habitat but usually much smaller and quite slow growing.  The Adenium flower is most commonly bright pink with a white throat, tubular in shape and single flowering but does come in other various shades of pink, red, white, yellow in both single and double varieties.  This is a lovely feature plant which grows very well in hot tropical and sub tropical climates usually as a container specimen.  Note that only plants grown from seed will produce the swollen caudex.

Araucaria heterophylla - Norfolk Island Pine

A spectacular large fast growing tree which usually reaches heights of 35m+ with a conical habit and horizontal branches and green pine leaves.  The Norfolk Island Pine is an iconic tree, usually seen in coastal locations as street trees in larger areas and open spaces, this tree is very tolerant of salt laden winds, great for erosion control and also tolerates pollution.

Dianella brevipedunculata - Blue Flax Lily

Dianella brevipedunculata is found extensively in northern NSW and SE QLD and grows to a tuft/clump to 50cm high.  It has weeping straplike green foliage which can reach 50cm to 1m long x 2cm wide and pretty blue-purple star shaped flowers which are held above the foliage on a zig zagged stem, these are then followed by purple-blue coloured berries which contain the shiny black seeds.  Great for rockeries, borders, erosion control, for revegetation projects and native garden plantings.

Ginkgo biloba - Maidenhair Tree

An unusually shaped, large deciduous tree with mature specimens having deeply furrowed bark.  Ginkgo has beautiful light green fan shaped foliage which looks very similar to maidenhair fern and this turns yellow in the Autumn.  A lovely tree which adds interest to large gardens and parks and is an ideal shade tree.

Strelitzia nicolai - Giant Bird of Paradise

A clump forming South African native which looks very similar to a Banana plant and reaches 10-12m high.  Large paddle shaped leaves to 1.8m long and 60cm wide, they are grey green in colour and are arranged like a fan at the top of the stems.  Gorgeous flowers which resemble a bird (white, blue and purple) are borne in the forks of the leaves and can occur sporadically throughout the year but best in the Spring and Summer.  These Strelitzia flowers are then followed by 3 sided fruit capsule which when opens on maturity containing several black seeded with bright orange woolly aril attached.  A great feature plant in gardens and parks.
